A side-by-side guide for owners

Coins, tokens or QR payment: which suits a self-service laundromat?

The short answer

Coins, tokens and DuitNow QR all start a laundromat machine; they differ in what customers carry and what owners handle. For an owner who wants no cash to collect at the machines and customers who pay from their phone, DuitNow QR suits a self-service laundromat. Byte Bunny Technology fits an IoT device to existing coin and token washers and dryers so they accept DuitNow QR, and the coin slot keeps working beside it.

Coins vs tokens vs QR payment, side by side

Byte Bunny Technology works with laundromat owners whose washers and dryers took coins or tokens. Here is how the three ways of paying compare, row by row.

On a machine fitted by Byte Bunny you do not have to choose: the coin slot keeps working beside the QR, and a customer can even split one payment, such as 3 tokens and RM4 by QR for a RM7 wash. This is what each way is built to do, not a promise about any one shop. Ask us what a table cannot answer: the price for your machines, and how and when QR payments reach you. Ask on WhatsApp.

02

What does each way of paying mean?

For the customer at the machine and for the owner who runs the shop, in a few lines each, with where Byte Bunny Technology fits in.

Coins

What does paying with coins mean?

For the customer, paying with coins means arriving with the right coins for the machine, or finding change before the wash.

For the owner, it means cash in every machine: a coin box to empty, count and carry to the bank, machine by machine.

Tokens

What does paying with tokens mean?

With tokens, customers buy tokens first, usually at a coin / token exchange machine, which is one of the machines on our own list. Then they pay the washer or dryer with the tokens.

For the owner, the cash collects in the exchange machine instead of the washers. It is still cash on site to collect and count, and customers still need something in hand before they can wash.

DuitNow QR

What does paying by DuitNow QR mean?

The customer pays from the e-wallet or banking app on their phone, in the three steps our own films show: How QR payment works at a self-service machine.

For the machine side, read How a cashless QR upgrade works on coin or token washing machines.

03

Which is safer for owners and customers?

Byte Bunny Technology's case is simple: coin and token sales leave cash on site, and cash in a coin box is what a break-in is after. At a laundromat fitted by Byte Bunny, a QR payment puts no cash into the washer or dryer, so there is no coin box for that payment to empty or break into.

For customers, cash in a pocket is what can be lost or stolen on the way; with QR, they bring a phone instead.

  • Prevents break-ins
  • Prevents theft - no need to bring cash

04

Which is easier to run?

With Byte Bunny Technology, a QR payment leaves nothing to collect by hand: no coin box to empty for it, and no tokens to count.

For the owner of a self-service laundromat, of the three ways to pay, only QR leaves no cash to handle for each payment.

  • Reduces overhead costs
  • Machine can be remotely activated

Which suits your laundromat?

Byte Bunny Technology suggests four questions. Answer each one yes or no for your shop:

  1. Do your customers often come without coins?

With QR, they pay from their phone. More in My laundromat customers never carry coins: what can I do?

  2. Do you want to see sales without counting cash?

The Byte Bunny Portal shows your sales and a detailed history of every transaction.

  3. Do you want fewer payments that leave cash in the machines?

A QR payment puts no cash into the washer or dryer, so there is nothing to collect for it.

  4. Do you want to keep the machines you have?

We fit the IoT device into existing coin and token washers and dryers. More in Can my existing coin or token laundromat machines accept DuitNow QR payment?

Three or four yes: QR payment has the most to offer your shop. Talk to Byte Bunny on WhatsApp at +60 19-279 2968, with how many washers and dryers you run.

In short: DuitNow QR suits a laundromat whose customers carry a phone with an e-wallet or banking app. Coins and tokens need no phone, so they still suit customers without one, and a machine we fit keeps its coin slot for them.
