Self-service laundromats

Cashless QR payment for coin and token laundromats

The short answer

To convert a coin or token laundromat to QR payment in Malaysia, Byte Bunny Technology installs an IoT device into your existing washers and dryers so each machine can accept DuitNow QR. Customers open their e-wallet or banking app, scan the QR on the machine and pay the machine's price, and Byte Bunny's servers start the machine. The coin slot keeps working beside the QR, and owners watch sales and every transaction in the Byte Bunny Portal.

Laundromats are our main focus.

01

What does converting a coin or token laundromat to QR payment involve?

Converting does not mean starting again with new machines. Byte Bunny Technology installs an IoT device (a small connected unit fitted inside the machine) into the washers and dryers you already have, so each one can accept DuitNow QR payment. When a customer scans the QR on a machine and pays, our servers activate that machine and the cycle begins.

We provide this as software as a service for laundromat owners, including owners whose machines previously took tokens or cash. What we sell is the concept of a cashless laundromat: payment moves from the coin slot to the customer's phone, while the shop and the machines stay yours.

Byte Bunny also works with vending machines and arcades.

How will my customers pay?

The way our own how-to films show it, at the washer or the dryer: no new app to download, and no coins.

  1. 01

Open your e-wallet or banking app

Customers use the payment app already on their phone; our films show both an e-wallet app and a bank app.

  2. 02

Scan the QR on the machine

They open the app's scanner and scan the DuitNow QR sticker on the washer or dryer.

  3. 03

    Pay the machine's price

They pay what that machine charges, and the machine starts.

What do I get as the owner?

Five things our system is built to do for a self-service business owner, and what each means in a laundromat. Results depend on your shop.

Sales

Monitors cash sales and e-wallet sales

Machines

Machine can be remotely activated

After a customer pays by QR, Byte Bunny's servers start the machine. Owners can also start one from the Byte Bunny Portal, from anywhere.

Security

Prevents break-ins

A QR payment puts no cash into the machine, so there is less in the coin box for anyone to break in for.

Costs

Reduces overhead costs

Every QR payment is one less handful of coins to collect, count and carry to the bank.

Customers

Provides alternative payment methods to customers

Customers who carry no coins can still pay, from the app on their phone.

Owners follow their sales and a detailed history of every transaction in the Byte Bunny Portal. More on The Byte Bunny backend for self-service machine owners.

04

What do my customers get?

What changes for the people who use your machines.

  • Hassle free - no apps to download

Customers pay with the e-wallet or banking app already on their phone; there is no Byte Bunny app to install.

  • Many e-wallet payment methods available

Customers are not tied to one app to pay at your machines.

  • Prevents theft - no need to bring cash

The phone pays, so customers need not carry cash to the laundromat.

Coins, tokens or QR: what changes?

What should I ask before fitting?

The first two are answered here; put the rest to us on WhatsApp, with your machine list.

  • Will my machines still take coins or tokens after fitting?

Yes. The coin slot keeps working beside the QR, and a customer can even split one payment: for a RM7 wash, 3 tokens in the slot and RM4 by QR.

  • What if a customer pays and the machine does not start?

If the shop's wifi is down, our system sees the machine as offline and refunds the customer's bank account automatically. If the washer or dryer itself is at fault, you refund the customer yourself.

  • Which washer and dryer models can be fitted?

Send us the make and model of each machine, or a photo of its coin slot.

  • How long does fitting take, and does the shop close?

Installation is step 6 above, on a date scheduled with you. Ask us how long it takes for a shop your size.

  • What does it cost?

Ask us for a price for your own machines.

  • How do QR payments reach me, and when?

You apply for a merchant ID with the payment gateway (step 3 above). Ask us to walk you through the rest before you decide.

  • Which areas do you fit in?

Ask us whether we fit in your area.

  • What does each machine need, such as power or internet?

Ask us what your machines and your shop need before fitting.
